B) ELIGIBILITY

A student is eligible for instruction in French if he/she meets at least one of the following criteria:

1. Child of a parent whose first language learned and still understood is French.

2. Child of a parent who received his/her primary school instruction in Canada is French.

3. Child whose sibling has received or is receiving primary or secondary school instruction in Canada in a French first language school.

EXCEPTIONAL ELIGIBILITY (ACCORDING TO BOARD POLICY) A student may be admitted according to the following categories. Checking one of the following constitutes the first step for a request for an exceptional admission in accordance with admission policy of the school board and its administrative procedures.

Parents/grand-parents who have Francophone roots and want to reintegrate French identity and culture into their children’s lives.

Parents who want their children to maintain their French language skills, identity and culture (i.e. Francophone immigrants or permanent residents).

Children enrolled in French immersion program that has been abolished in the community.

The parents are anglophones and want to integrate into the Francophone minority community.

Section 58 of the Education Act of Alberta stipulates that school boards must notify parents when courses, programs of study or instructional materials, or instruction or exercises include subject-matter that deals primarily and explicitly with religion, gender identity, sexual orientation or human sexuality.

At the written request of a parent, the teacher is to exclude the student from the instruction, course or program of study or use of instructional materials that deals primarily and explicitly with religion, without academic penalty.

No Board or teacher shall permit a student to take part in a course, program of study or instruction, or use instructional materials or an exercise, that deals primarily and explicitly with gender identity, sexual orientation or human sexuality unless the parent of the student has provided prior consent for the student to do so.

Alberta's curriculum contains the mandatory learning outcomes for students, which are achieved through instructional choices made by certified teachers. Resources under section 58 of the Education Act must be approved by the Minister of Education.

Teachers will send a notice and consent form to parents for courses that contain material that primarily and explicitly addresses with religion, gender identity, sexual orientation or human sexuality.

School fees are used to pay expenses for transportion, cultural and sporting activities, class materials, etc. School fees (Preschool to grade 12) must be paid before September 30 with the School Cash program. https://csce.schoolcashonline.com

For all students from preschool to grade 12

Description of the fees

These fees cover certain expenses such as library resources, copyright and viewing, electronic equipment for students, cultural activities at school, as well as stationery, photocopying and perishable materials for all courses. In high school, some courses may require additional fees and / or deposits.

These fees cover a portion of the cost of materials and related equipment (perishable notebooks) for all courses.

If there are excursions during the school year, the costs will be claimed through School Cash.

The fees for next September have not yet been established. You can check the school's website to see this year's fees for reference.

School Cash – Online Payment

School fees (preschool to grade 12) must be paid before September 30 with School Cash online. https://csce.schoolcashonline.com If you have any questions about the School Cash program or if you need assistance to make your payment, please contact your school’s secretary.

All costs, except excursions costs, are to be paid by September 30. An account is delinquent if no payment has been received or arrangements made before the payment is due.

In case of overdue accounts, the school will send a notice to parents to make them aware of the situation and remind them that the payment or other arrangements must be made within 15 days. Any parent who has not responded within the 15 days, will receive a second notice. This review will inform the parents that they have 15 days to respond. In failing to do so, their account will be sent to a collection agency.

APPENDIX 2 Protection of Privacy Act (POPA)

The personal information collected by the Conseil scolaire Centre-Est (“CSCE”) is pursuant to section 4(c) of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) (the “Act”), as it directly relates to and is necessary for operating its programs and its activities, as well as section 4(a) of the Act, as the collection of the information is expressly authorized by Section 56 of the Education Act of Alberta and the Student Record Regulation.

In accordance with section 10 of the Act, the CSCE implements reasonable security measures against risks such as unauthorized access, collection, use, or disclosure. Personal information will only be used and disclosed for the purposes for which it was collected or as authorized by the Act.
