MEDIA RELEASE

St. Paul, Alberta (June 24, 2019) – Conseil scolaire Centre-Est is pleased to announce the appointment of Dolorèse Nolette as its new Superintendent of schools. Ms. Nolette, originally from Jean-Côté in Alberta’s Peace River district, completed her high school at Georges P. Vanier School in Donnelly and pursued her studies at Campus Saint-Jean where she received a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Education. Very much in line with her position, her master’s thesis focused on the development of language skills in Alberta’s French-language schools. She also holds a university certificate in theology from the University of Alberta.

Ms. Nolette has an enviable, varied and remarkable career path. Her early years were that of teacher, guidance counsellor, educational consultant and vice-principal for Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest and High Prairie School Division in northwestern Alberta. From 2003 to 2010, she was the superintendent of schools for Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest. From there, she became Director of academic affairs and governance at Campus Saint-Jean (University of Alberta). For two years, she oversaw the Réseau d’adaptation scolaire serving the four French-language school boards in Alberta in the area of student inclusion and special needs. She then spent a year as Acting Superintendent of Education in Regina for Conseil des écoles fransaskoises. In 2015, Ms. Nolette returned to work at Campus Saint-Jean as Assistant Dean and Director of the Centre Collégial de l’Alberta, a position she is leaving to come to the Centre-Est.

Beyond her many achievements in education, the new Superintendent is recognized for her volunteer work, the list being as long as it is striking: vice-president of the provincial Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta (six years) and vice-president (four years); board member of the national Association canadienne en éducation de langue française; board member of the Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada; executive member of the Regroupement national des directions générales de l’éducation; national president of the Commission national des parents francophones and provincial president of the Fédération des parents francophones de l’Alberta; president of the CKRP-FM community radio’s coordinating committee; member of several pastoral committees and responsible for sacramental preparation.

Ms. Nolette describes herself as follows, “My leadership style tends to unite people and. I prefer an appreciative approach that serves students and school communities. I am bilingual, entrepreneurial, competent in technology and possess concrete managerial skills in conflict resolution, mediation and problem-solving.

School board chair Réginald Roy said he is pleased that six candidates from across Alberta and Canada applied for the position, despite recent challenges. “It demonstrates that the Centre-East remains a great place to live and work,” he says.

The chair added, “On behalf of my fellow trustees, I want to thank Mr. Marc Dumont, our former Superintendent, who worked in our schools and in central administration since the beginning of his career in 1994, and as Superintendent since 2010. He oversaw many important educational, resource acquisition and infrastructure initiatives that will long remain among the foundational pillars that define our organization. We wish him every success in his future career plans”.

Mr. Roy thanked Mr. Henri Lemire who supported the School Board as Acting Superintendent since October 30, 2018, during the leadership transition period. His contract ends on June 30 and Ms. Nolette commences on July 1.
